Plane crash in Phuket

This is just absolutely tragic news...a plane has crashed and exploded at Phuket Airport with most people on board feared dead. Weather conditions are atrocious but the pilot still landed after circling the airport a few times. The story is here in The Bangkok Post news, or here for Aussie newspaper.

Update - 88 people were killed, 42 injured. On board were 44 Thai nationals and 79 foreigners. Survivors escaped through broken windows, the emergency exit and the broken fuselage but many people were still strapped into their chairs. The pilot was attempting to abort the first landing as he could not see the runway but the plane had already touched down and slipped on the tarmac, hitting an embankment, breaking in 2, followed by 2 explosions. It's a miracle there were any survivors.

It's incredibly devastating, heartbreaking, shocking...

I saw the headline on my Yahoo news this afternoon. It's so scary because it could be any of us. I always feel so vulnerable aboard an airplane. My thoughts and prayers are with the families and survivors.

I have friends who were going to Phuket over the weekend - very scary checking the list on the Bangkok Post to see if their names were there (Thankfully they are not!!)

Others have not been so lucky.....
