One of life's great pleasures is coffee. I feel sorry for people that don't drink coffee because they just can't appreciate the immense rapture that one can get from a good cup of coffee. Even though I can't get a good latte or cappo in my village, I do indulge in Thai Cafe Boran (lit. ancient coffee) every morning. Village coffee shops amuse me in that they are filled with dozens of men with no women in sight (apart from the one making the brew). It's the complete opposite of our culture where cafes are packed with gossiping chicas! The women still drink coffee, it's just that they buy it in bags
(like this...) and take it home to drink. Coffee is always served with a herb tea to cleanse the system after intoxicating it with coffee and condensed milk (fresh milk is never used in coffee here!). Personally, I find the coffee waaay too sweet (for obvious condensed reasons) so I split it 50/50 with the tea and low and behold...the perfect cuppa!
You buy these little fried doughy things for 1 baht (that doesn't even register in a dollar figure) to dip in your coffee and dadaa...you have your authentic Thai breakfast.

Oh Mel, I feel for you!! I know what you mean. But condensed milk....eewww. How far, if at all, would you have to drive to get a real strong milk coffee? Could you even get one over there?
I have to say Mel that I cannot do Thai Coffee.....it is the most foul substance known to man!!

Got some passionate anti-Thai coffeeists in the house! Have to admit when I first tried it without the 50/50 tea/coffee mix, I couldn't drink it but it def beats drinking instant with coffee mix!
Court-would have to drive about 90km to get a "real" coffee! See, I could buy a coffee machine but I'm a coffee addict and I'd end up drinking 10 cups a day if I had it in the house. At least this way it's only one cup a day!
Love Thai coffee even tho it is too sweet. A perfect beverage given the climate. The sweetened condensed milk gives me pause, until I drink that first sip. Okay, so I never drink more than one a day..
