Chicken Anonymous...

Is it possible to be addicted to chicken? I actually think I'm reaching saturation point where I'm never going to be able to eat chicken again due to our neighbour directly across the street selling fried chicken and sticky rice (with fried crispy onion) every day this week. Her chicken is delectable...it screams out to me to dare me to bite into the crispy, secret recipe flesh, the smell wafting up my nasal cavities ceaselessly teasing, teasing...I gave into temptation again today and now feel quite nauseated...Funny thing is that I used to be vegetarian in my Australian life. I still remember my 21 birthday driving behind a chicken transport truck and all the back chickens were dead...I had already given up red meat for a few years by this time, but white breasted chicken was my weakness...until I saw that truck and didn't eat chicken again until 3 and a half years ago while travelling in South America... it was for the vitamins I told myself and a better option then fried guinea pig, or so I thought at the time! So down, down I went into the decadent world of flesh eating once more, only feeling the occasional pang of guilt that this living thing had given it's life for me. So, I think by overdosing on chicken, it may well bring about my vegetarianism once more.. surely I can go to rehab or something for this torturous disease. Seems to be the done thang this week..

I tried to be vegetarian whilst I was at Uni - it didn't last long. (When I started dreaming about eating chicken I knew vegetarianism wasn't for me!!)

I was veggie until living in Thailand. I spent so much time picking meat out of the veggie meals I bought, I gave up and started eating it again! Now I think I eat more meat than veggies - fried chicken and kaoneaw is just so damn good.

funny but I became practically veggie in thailand & hardly eat meat (that isn't in soups) at all now even in UK. Fish is my weakness. But I can appreciate the appeal of a juicy bit of fried chicken but only the skin, same with pork crackling, I love to eat the crispy fat on Moo glob but not the pork flesh itself!!!.

Well I eat meat all the time!! I love meat! Just finished a 5 day cleanse however, where the only meat I ate was fish(also didnt eat sugar, salt, caffine, some vegtables, citrus and had to try to be as organic as possible and no white rice! Only brown). Feel great but do miss my pork! However once you do a cleanse its real hard to go back to the greasy fatty pork that I adore. Gonna stick to fish, chicken(not fried unfortunately!) and moo dang for a while I think!

I remember exactly this type of fried chicken you are describing. Golf told me it is a Moslem recipe. We'd have a vendor near our condo and I'd allow getting it once a week only because it's too delicious and fattening to eat more often than that! Do you dip it in the sweet sauce?

It took me a looong time to get chicken out of my system and I never completely stopped lusting after eating it for the 5+ years that I abstained!

I think it's possible to be veggie here but must be nigh impossible to be vegan since they put fish sauce in EVERYTHING!!

Ah, I remember back in the day of eating pork crackling! Savoured delights of roast pork night! Of course the thought of it now makes me retch! Just the smell of pork or beef makes my stomach turn now.. haven't eaten either in about 14 years (originally gave up because my mother is such a meat lover and served it up every single night of the year!)

Wow, good on you Meme! how fantastic to do a cleanse..I so need to do that! I think just by not eating rice and coffee you would have knocked a couple of kilos off, right? I gave up coffee for new years (ok I've had a couple!) but without consuming all that condensed milk I reckon I've lost about 3 kgs!!

Amy, it's probably lucky they don't serve it with the sweet sauce here, don't think you could get more fattening then deep fried chicken.. until you add the sauce!!
